1983. Isabella Rossellini, the first face of Lancôme
Call it a 30-year old love story. If anybody could personify independent cinema with startling beauty, a free-spirited yet sensitive personality and coquettish outlook, it would be Isabella Rossellini, the Italian-American actress and daughter of Ingrid Bergman and Roberto Rossellini.
Hardly surprising then that in 1983 Lancôme approached Isabella and invited her to become its very first ambassadress, a role she held until 1995. Today, Lancôme counts numerous other famous faces among its ambassadresses, including Julia Roberts, Kate Winslet, Penelope Cruz, Lily Collins and most recently, top model Taylor Hill.
As for Isabella Rossellini, as house muse, her radiant beauty continues to inspire, not just as a symbol, but because “she doesn’t just represent the Lancôme house values beautifully, she is their essence, embodying the idea that beauty and wellbeing are synonymous,” states Françoise Lehmann, Director General of Lancôme International.
